Western Australia State Championship Retrieving Trial -

20 - 21 September 2008

At the Western Australia State Championship Retrieving Trial held on 20-21 September 2008 Eleanor Johnson successfully completed all the runs with her ‘old boy’ 10 year old Ch Wauchope Indiana Jones AARD ET ADX JDX.  ‘Indi’ wasn’t in the placings but to successfully finish such a demanding trial is an achievement to be proud of especially in a field of labradors.

Well done Eleanor and ‘Indi’.

German Shorthair Pointer Club Vic. Inc. - June 2006

ALL AGE FIELD REPORT TRIAL

Judge was David Blacker

The GSP Club held its premier field trial event of the year in the St James area of Northern Victoria, the trial was conducted in very cold blustery conditions in sparsely covered stubble paddocks. The birds had been hunted the day previously and where very wild and territorial, it’s very difficult to get or to expect good dog work in such trying conditions. With the birds occupying only a small part of the paddocks each pair of dogs had to be given the same ground to run on which is far from ideal. We lost half the field in the first round due to indiscretions such as stealing (2) out of control (2) failing to retrieve (2).

The second round was run in the same paddocks with the wind picking up making the conditions even more trying, the name of the game was to get a bird on your belt and try and stay out of trouble, only 3 of the dogs managed to do that, with only 3 dogs required for the water run, which was a 45 metre swim in a weedy lagoon a typical duck shooting run. Unfortunately two of the dogs did not want to get wet and no amount of encouragement would get them to swim for the pigeon, the only dog that did get the bird went straight in and straight to it, and  seemed totally oblivious to the cold conditions. The winning was Michael Calleja's Brittany who kept out of trouble all day and managed to handle the very trying conditions. This win gave “Bridie” her field trial title. The first for a Brittany in quite a few years.
